Many of the clean-up workers were local Inuit. Many workers later suffered serious health problems because of this work. The US had a military base on Greenland, close to where this crash happened. Back then Greenland was a territory of Denmark. In the 1990s, a secret government document was leaked. It showed that Denmark’s prime minister at the time knew about the nuclear-flights, even though the Danish public did not until the crash happened.
